Whats the best web hosting for WordPress? I get asked this question a lot as well as ‘where do i find fast web hosting for WordPress’? Its amazing how fast WordPress is when you first install it and haven’t installed plugins yet.
After that it gets slower and slower and slower unless you find a faster web host and optimize your site’s speed using a range of different methods.
I’ve personally tried more than 6 different WordPress hosting plans. Here’s what i’ve learned from my experiences over the last year about how to choose a fast hosting plan for WordPress:
Web Hosting Reviews – Affordable Web Hosting
Hostgator – Hatchling plan is suited for beginners who already own a domain name or plan and simply want quality hosting for one site only at the most competitive price in the industry. At around $62 a year, this WordPress hosting plan is excellent.
All you need to do is change your domain name servers to point to Hostgator and you’re live on the net within 2 hours.
Hostgator – Baby plan offers WordPress hosting for unlimited sites however you may find you simply run out of resources. CPU is NOT unlimited meaning its only a matter of time before Hostgator ‘Jail’ your sites and throttle them to the point they go down! You can use my coupon: wordpresssites and take 25% off as well.
Hostgator VPS – Enjoyed using VPS for WordPress but didn’t enjoy paying $50 a month. I could buy my own server for a fixed price and rent cPanel at that price. On the other hand, i might need VPS at some stage if i continue to host my own videos on my own server and my traffic continues to increase.
Bluehost – Standard plan is great for WordPress beginners who want to install WordPress immediately and start blogging. Here’s more on what you get from Bluehost features.
Need a Domain Name – If you need a new domain name all you need to do is enter the domain name you want in this box and you’ll get it free with the hosting plan.
Have a Domain Name – You can easily manage your domain on the same account as your hosting. If you already have a domain name simply enter your existing domain name here and it will be managed on the same account as your web hosting plan.
No need to change name servers from another domain manager or need for DNS technical knowledge. This plan offers the easiest & fastest solution for getting your new WordPress site up and running live on the world wide web.
Bluehost Pro – Provides more resources than their stand shared hosting plan and faster hosting for more CPU intensive sites which are already established. If you start on the standard Bluehost plan you can easily upgrade to this Pro package when you need to down the track. Less than half the price of moving to VPS and far easier.
Bluehost Pro is the type of account i recommend if you want fast web hosting for WordPress sites which contain lots of plugins and require more hosting resources like CPU & Bandwidth. I currently use this plan and Bluehost provide excellent technical support which can help you increase your site speed and improve page loading speeds.
Media Temple – Grid hosting on multiple clustered servers can be technically challenging to setup especially if you’re transferring from another host/server. Media Temple don’t offer 24/7 online technical support so if you’re outside the U.S this can be a problem when setting up your site or transferring from another server/host.
Wasn’t a great experience for me so i wouldn’t recommend this host when there’s other solutions like the Bluehost Pro account. I’ll try them again at some stage down the track when they have developed their service more.
Both Bluehost and Hostgator provide fast web hosting for WordPress if you’re prepared to upgrade from a standard shared hosting plan to a Pro account or VPS hosting plan.
- Already own a domain name and want quality hosting for one site only at a great price
- Need a domain name and hosting for multiple sites
- Need a faster web host at an affordable price
- Need to host heaps of videos and/or multiple sites
The best hosting for your situation depends on a range of different factors. Here are some of them.
- Site Speed and Performance
- CPU, Bandwidth & Resources Usage
- Website/Blog Size & Number of Sites
- Amount of Plugins & Self Hosted Video’s
There’s many more factors to take into consideration when making a decision on which hosting to go with. If your site speed is around 4 seconds or less then you really don’t need to upgrade or find a faster web hosting solution at the moment.
Finding fast web hosting is not the only way to increase your site speed and performance. You can fix slow page loading speeds and increase your sites speed using other methods.
WordPress Hosting Requirements
You’ll need technical support at some stage from your host and these 2 are amongst the best to provide this for you.
Always take full backup of your site and keep it stored on your own machine or another safe location. Why? Because you DON’T want to end up like these 4800 websites lost without any chance of recovery. You cannot rely on your web host for backup!
