Add Widget To Magazine Pro Front Page

This free quick tip provides the code which adds a new widget area to the Magazine Pro themes front page template.

Based on this question from a new member of the genesis community :

I am looking into using Magazine Pro for a travel website and found out that the homepage can consist of three widgets with blog posts which looks great! However, I also want to use a static “welcome page” to the homepage, likely above the three widgets or perhaps in between them. Is this possible and if yes how do I go about this?

Here’s the code :

Code Installation

Step 1 : Using a code editor, swap out the entire PHP code in the Magazine Pro themes front-page.php file with the PHP code in the gist named front-page.php

Step 2 : Using a code editor, add the PHP code from the gist named functions.php to the end of the Magazine Pro themes functions.php file.
