Modify Genesis Post Categories Shortcode

The 3 code snippets in this tutorial show you how to modify the default output of the category links in the entry footer.

These links are generated by the genesis post categories shortcode included in the Genesis framework.

The code snippets do the following :

  1. Remove/modify the Filed Under text displayed before the list of categories.
  2. Remove/modify the separator , added between each category link.
  3. Exclude 1 or more categories from the list.
  4. Remove the link from each category name.

In this example, the code is used to remove the News category, remove the Filed Under text and remove the link to the category archive page.

Shows how you can modify the default post category links in the entry footer of any Genesis child theme.

Tested using the Genesis Sample child theme by StudioPress. Works in any Genesis child theme.

Installation Steps #

There’s only 1 step :

Add the no.1 snippet and/or either the no.2 or no.3 code snippet from the download folder to the end of your child themes functions.php file and modify the default output to suit your own requirements. Support for modification of code snippets is included in membership.
