The Thesis theme for WordPress doesn’t currently come with a footer as standard so you either need to install a thesis skin which already has the footer included or create the Thesis footer yourself, DIY style.
Installing a Thesis skin is a great idea if you find one which matches your style otherwise you can follow this simple tutorial on how to add a footer to the Thesis theme for WordPress.
Thesis comes with 2 Custom Code editors for CSS Styling and PHP (functions). You don’t really need to edit the code as Thesis provides a library of new code especially created for you to simply add to the editor and click save.
That’s it! Anything you can think of is already created in code so all you do is grab it and paste it in to transform your site into anything you want it to be.
Caution! Always create a full backup of your WordPress site before editing PHP code otherwise you are taking a risk.
The first step to create your footer, called a fat or widgetized footer, is to add some PHP code to your custom PHP file editor. Simply copy and paste this code to the bottom of your custom PHP file editor.
If you don’t already own Thesis or cannot copy and paste from here, try the Thesis users guide for Thesis owners only.
After adding the PHP code to your editor, you’ll now see 3 extra widgets appear in your widgets administration under appearance.
Next step is to add some CSS code to your custom CSS file editor.
The last 3 lines of CSS code are there if you want to customize the footer text, colour and make any other changes without effecting the other widgets.
The reason i personally use and recommend the Thesis theme for WordPress is not only because its flexible and extremely well coded for SEO but also because of the amazing support from the Thesis volunteers.
You can’t buy this support anywhere in my opinion so whenever you need help with anything, you know your getting the best support all included in your thesis package for life!
