Have you ever needed to transfer website hosting or move your blog to another server?
If you are searching for a solution, you have come to the right place.
Transferring a blog to a new host can be complicated and time consuming if you have never done it before.
Here’s a simple to follow WordPress tutorial on how to move a WordPress blog to another host.
It took me awhile to work out that quality web hosting provides faster page load speeds therefore better search engine results so I decided to upgrade my hosting to a new host.
I also needed to find a way to transfer all my WordPress blogs to the new host. I searched for help but the only way to get my blogs moved was to pay $75 each or learn myself.
Considering the total cost for 8 blogs, I decided to learn how to transfer my blogs to a new host myself.
Moving a WordPress blog to a new host using a Direct Admin Control Panel App called Installatron for exporting & copying your files and databases and importing then reinstalling using Fantastico or simple scripts is simple really.
NO Filezilla or FTP required!
Step 1 You will need to backup all your files and databases which is really easy.
You can backup your databases inside your control panel using several methods. Just make sure you backup(copy) the correct databases for your domain you wish to move to another web host.
Login to your control panel (Cpanel) and click on Instant Package Installer under Advanced Features.
It may be called something else if you are using Fantastico or another application however the principles are the same.
Simply click on create backup and follow the backup wizard until you have completed backup.
Follow The Backup Wizard.
Step 2 Export files and databases.
Go back to Advanced Features and click on phpmyadmin, select the database you wish to export then click on export.
Step 3 You can also backup and copy your posts, pages, comments, custom fields, categories, and tags using the export tool included in your Dashboard.
Go to Tools in your WordPress Dashboard and click on Export then WordPress to Download Export Files.
You will need to install the export plugin before you can export. Save your WordPress files to your desktop and import them using the import tab under tools into your new installation after you have installed your site on your new host.
Here’s a screen shot of what it looks like.
Step 4. If you are using a premium theme like Genesis for example, you can also save and export your design settings for import to your site once it is installed on your new hosting.
Go to the Genesis tab in your wordpress dashboard and click on Export Genesis Settings File.
Step 5 Time to import all your files, databases and settings to your new host. Login to your Cpanel and find phpmyadmin under Databases.
Here’s a screenshot of what Cpanel looks like once you have logged into your web hosting account.
Once you have clicked on phpMyAdmin, select the database you wish to import your old site database into.
A list of your databases is located on the top left hand corner.
In my case, the main database is Austrar2 and i currently have 3 databases listed underneath as i have already setup 3 WordPress blog databases for 3 domains under this main database.
You will need to import your database into the correct location so find out which database corresponds to which domain.
If you only have 1 site then import into that database.
Step 6. Click on import at the top right hand corner of your phpMyAdmin screen and browse to your old database then click Go and your done.
Once you have your old databases and files imported to your new host, you can also import the WordPress files and Genesis Export File Settings if you are using a Genesis.
You will need to install both a WordPress export and import plugin if you want to import your posts, pages, comments, custom fields, categories, and tags into your site.
Under Tools in your WordPress dashboard you will find import.
Click import and then click WordPress to install the import plugin before you import all your WordPress posts, pages, comments, custom fields, categories, and tags into your site.
The same applies to your export from your old site.
