Do you understand and use your Rss feed to its full potential?
I was reading an article recently about how most people don’t know what RSS is and over 90% of new bloggers who subscribe by email but have no idea what feedburner or a feed reader is.
Here’s a simple youtube video explaining the basics of what RSS is in plain English.
Really Simple Syndication (RSS) normally in XML format, provides frequently updated content (like a new blog post) whish is then automatically sent readers who subscribe to new updates from thier favorite websites and blogs.
Here’s an example of my blogs rss feed
If you want to subscribe to the latest blog posts and get the new content delivered automatically, all you need to do is click on the rss icon and choose to subscribe by rss or email.
This way you don’t need to check your favorite blogs for new content every day as it will be sent to your feed reader or email inbox when new content is published.
How to Install, Configure & Promote Your Feed
Step 1 Feeds can be read using your favorite feed reader like the free google feedburner service which is software to enable reading of updates (recently published blog Posts).
Step 2 WordPress offer many feed plugins with widgets to help make syndication, installation and configuration of feed to your blog really simple.
Here’s a post on how to Promote your FeedBurner feed on your site
Step 3 Install and configure a feed plugin. The theme i use for my blog already comes with RSS installed which makes it so easy to setup.
All you need to do is install the best feed plugin feedburner feedsmith and create a new account with Google feedburner and your nearly done.
Enter your new custom RSS URI address to the custom feeds box after clicking on theme options under the Genesis tab in your Dashboard and your done.
You can also search for the feedburner feedsmith plugin and install it from your Dashboard by clicking on Add New plugin under Plugins.
Another way to automatically distribute your newly published posts is to use the blog broadcast feature within your favourite email program. This will automatically send a headline with a link to your new posts to some or all your email subscriber lists that you have built up using your email program. I use this feature for all my blog posts and it not only gets me new subscibers and distributes my new content but also saves me heaps of time.
RSS is a great way to build a list of blog subscribers as well as distribute your new blog post content automatically for free.Subscribe to Free Tutorials
