3 Ways To Add Manual Excerpts To CPT Archive Page

Most Genesis child themes which include custom post types, also include a archive file which enables you to customize the default archive.

In the case of a theme which includes a CPT named portfolio, that archive would be named archive-portfolio.php.

The Executive Pro theme by StudioPress includes such a file.

1. Genesis Content Archive Settings

Generally, if you want to display excerpts rather than the content on archive pages, you simply change the Genesis > Theme Settings > Content Archive settings to excerpt as seen in the following image:

Thats the easiest way to display content added manually to the Excerpts meta box on all Edit Page/Post screens in Genesis.

However, the Genesis settings also effect all blog listings pages, including archives, author, blog, category, search, and tag pages.

If you only want manual excerpts shown on specific CPT archives, or any type of archive, you’ll need to modify the code in your archive-cpt.php file or other archive type file.
