The tutorials in this archive include code which enables you to remove both the primary and secondary default sidebars in Genesis and add a custom sidebar. The custom sidebar can be hand coded or created using the Genesis Simple Sidebars plugin. The custom sidebar can be loaded via the child themes functions file or called directly in a template.
