Why You Don’t Need Page Builders & Theme Options

If you own a MacBook Pro which already includes everything available, why would you add another operating system from another computer?

Well thats what you’re doing when you install page builders with WordPress and use themes full of design options when WordPress already includes a built in page builder named Gutenberg.

  1. You don’t need them.
  2. You don’t want the problems they can cause.
  3. Technology changes fast.
  4. They are primitive, obsolete.

WordPress blocks already enable you to customize every element on your site, its called Full Site editing ( FSE ).

So why do so many people go for these popular page builders and popular themes full of custom design functionality, most of which is already included in WordPress?

Once you’ve spent time learning how to use theme options and plugin design options, you’ve invested time and effort so it feels like a waste if you move to another solution and start again.

Having answered more than 20,000 questions across various WordPress communities and having completed coding work for more than 5,000 clients over the last 15 years, i suggest you avoid potential problems and install a block theme like Twenty Twenty Four ( TT4 ) or TT5 and play around with blocks. Both are free and made by the WordPress community.

In the past, page builders and themes full of design options where useful for web designers who don’t like to code however blocks have taken over and are much advanced and cleaner coded than any page builder or maxed out theme money can buy.

When choosing a theme or plugin, ask these questions :

  • Is the functionality they add already included in WordPress?
  • Does the functionality modify the default functionality of WordPress
  • If using WooCommerce, does the plugin or theme modify the default functionality of WooCommerce?

Blocks are pretty much the same as page builders and theme options just packaged differently and called another name.
