Otto has recently released a new plugin which adds a new option to your Add Media pop up.
Pretty cool plugin which lets you copy images from Dropbox into WordPress.
Create an App
Here’s the full setup instructions you’ll need to follow.
Go to Dropbox Developers Apps and “Create an App”.
Probably best to allow access to Full Dropbox.
App Key & Secret
After creating your App you’ll get a App key and App secret which you need to insert into the plugin manually.
Its time to edit the plugin files.
Edit Plugin Files
Go to Plugins > Editor and insert your app key and secret into the fields as shown in the image below.
Next step is to insert a media file which you have uploaded to the Dropbox file you’ll be using for hosting your files.
Insert Dropbox Hosted Media File
Create a new page or post and click the Upload/Insert icon like you normally would to insert an image.
Firstly, you’ll need to login to your Dropbox account and authorize the plugin to access your media files.
After this, all you need to do is choose the media file(s) you want to embed into your page and you’re cooking with gas!

Howdy! My Dropbox Photo Sideloader plugin doesn’t host your files on Dropbox’s servers, it lets you copy them from Dropbox into WordPress.
There’s no good way to host a file on Dropbox’s server’s permanently any longer. They changed their system so that direct shared links only last for 60 days. Using them as a CDN is kinda against their Terms.

Yeah, I was gonna say – I think there’s problems with serving Dropbox files on a server, since Dropbox limits this type of usage.

This seems like an amazingly complicated way of uploading images. Why would I not just upload images regularly? I already have access to dropbox files locally.

There’s heaps of interest in this plugin because its been co developed by Audrey Capital which is an angel investment and research company created by Matt Mullenweg of WordPress to help innovative ideas grow.
Dropbox is hugely popular for storing images and this plugin makes it faster to copy your images directly from your DB account to your WordPress blog.
How about using a service such as CloudApp (http://www.cl.ly) to serve the files. Sparrow App for mail already allows that type of integration and it works very well. I could see it working great for documents or downloadable items, as that’s what CloudApp is for – but not necessarily for images. I agree with Patrick – it seems like a very complicated way of uploading via dropbox.
