Useful Plugins for WordPress Users

Here’s a list of plugins which have caught my eye over the past month or so.

There’s others which have too, but these seem to be the most useful.

Old Core Files

This plugin enables you to remove any core files which are left over after updating WordPress. Old files which have been superseded by newer versions and are no longer used (deprecated) can become a security problem and make it easier for hackers to get in and damage your piece of online real estate.

Image Wall

This plugin produces a wall of images which your visitors can scroll through to find content visually. Check out the demo of what your page will look like after installing the image wall plugin.

Disable Hide Comment URL

This plugin simply enables you to remove the website link field from your comments form so you cut down on spam. You’ll also reduce your comments by discouraging readers who leave comments simply because they want a link back to their site. If you prefer quality comments over quantity, this is a good solution.

Prefer using code than installing more plugins? Here’s the code that does exactly the same thing.

This plugin enables you to create your own custom landing page using any WordPress theme. Watch the video to learn more about how to use the free WordPress landing pages plugin.

Default Featured Images

Here’s 2 plugins you can choose from if you want to display an image on featured posts which you haven’t set the image on. There’s one plugin which works on all themes and one specifically developed for all the smart people who choose Genesis as their rock solid theme framework.

oEmbed HTML5 audio

This plugin uses the oEmbed technology WordPress also uses for Youtube and other media files. Simply paste the url to your audio file on a separate line in a post or page and the plugin will convert it to HTML 5 audio.

Don’t like this plugin? Try the Code Art Google MP3 Player plugin instead.

Term Management Tools

This plugin makes it easier to make changes to your categories and tags. If you’re thinking about changing, merging or deleting some of your categories and tags, its worth taking a look at term management tools plugin.

Useful Plugins for Customizing Themes

You might also find these plugins useful for customizing your website depending on which theme you are using.
