This code enables you to add a button to the read more link and link it to any URL. If no URL added, the read more button links to the post permalink.
There’s 3 code snippets in this tutorial which work as follows:
1. The 1st code snippet only works when using the content limit as seen in the following image.
2. The 2nd code snippet only works when adding a hand crafted excerpt using the Excerpt meta box located below the editor on all Edit Post screens:
3. The 3rd snippet only works when using the auto generated excerpt set in the Genesis > Theme Settings > Content Archives > Display > Entry Excerpts.
Note: the 3rd solution will not add the button for the read more link unless the content in the post exceeds the minimum character limit otherwise there’s no more content to link to.
