How to Test Googles GA4 Add To Cart Tracking for WooCommerce Products

This beginners guide shows you the steps you need to take to test tracking code installation and data using the GA4 Add to Cart Tracking plugin for WooCommerce.

Step 1 : Turn On Debug Mode

  1. Go to WooCommerce → GA4 Tracking ATC in your WordPress dashboard
  2. Check the box “Enable Debug Mode”
  3. Click “Save Changes”

Step 2 : Test a Simple Product

  1. Go to your shop page
  2. Find a simple product (not a bundle)
  3. Click “Add to Cart”
  4. Check your browser’s Developer Tools:
  • Press F12 or right-click → “Inspect”
  • Go to Console tab
  • Look for messages like: GA4 Tracking: add_to_cart event sent

Step 3 : Test a Bundle Product

  1. Find a product bundle on your site
  2. Click “Add to Cart”
  3. Check the Console again
  4. You should see the bundle AND all its child products listed

Step 4 : Check Google Analytics

  1. Go to Google Analytics
  2. Select your website
  3. Go to Reports → Engagement → Events
  4. Look for “add_to_cart” events
  5. Click on the event to see details

Step 5 : What to Look For

Good Signs:

  • Console shows tracking messages
  • GA4 shows “add_to_cart” events
  • Bundle products show multiple items in the event

Problems:

  • No console messages = tracking not working
  • No events in GA4 = data not reaching Google
  • Missing bundle items = bundle tracking issue

Quick Fixes

  • No tracking? Check if the plugin is enabled
  • No bundle data? Make sure “Bundle” is checked in settings
  • Still not working? Check the debug log file
