Increase Max Upload Limits In Instant WP

If you’re installed WordPress on your local PC using instantwp, you may want to import your content from your live installation.

Using the export tool on your live site, you can create a copy of all your posts, pages etc and then import these into your local setup.

Import

The only problem is, the default settings are limited at 2 MB.

This means your export file won’t import if its over this limit of 2 MB.

There is an easy solution which is to increase the limits.

Navigate to iwpserver\server\config_tpl on your local pc and open the php ini file using notepad ++.

You can now use the search feature to find these settings:

  • post_max_size
  • upload_max_filesize

Simply change the default limits from 2 MB to 20 MB or more if needed.

Max Import Size

Then you’ll need to restart the system before the limits change in WordPress.

You should now be able to import your content into your local installation of WordPress.

If you’re still having problems importing your content, you may need to export each months posts and import them one at a time to keep the file size smaller.

Live Server

If you need to increase the max upload limits on a live server, follow these instructions.

  1. Hey Brad, how goes it today?

Just thinking you might want to change the abbreviation you’re using in your text to match standard conventions (and that of the image capture you’re using in this post) for megabytes. You’re calling it mg. which generally is short for milligrams. Not sure how much data is in a milligram, mind you, so it might be as much as a MB, but then who knows? 🙂

    Cheers!
