The Easiest Way to Add a Custom Page in WordPress

Custom Page TemplatesThere’s one big advantage when you have access to over 100 themes made for the same WordPress theme framework. You can always add any page template from any theme without having to play around with code.

What i mean by this is you can’t simply upload any page template you find on the internet and add it to your existing theme because it won’t integrate & function correctly with your existing theme design unless of course its a page template already designed for the same framework.

Theme creators like Woo & Studiopress build a large range of different themes on the same framework which enables you to pick any template from any of their themes and use it on your existing theme even though the page template is made for another theme.

Two of The Best WordPress Theme Creators

Studiopress – Genesis framework

Woo Themes – Woo framework

Consistent code & structure

We code our themes using the same naming conventions, hierarchical folder structure and well commented functions meaning it’s simple for developers to cut and paste modules across themes. Woo themes.

If you really like a page template used on a Woo theme you can’t use it with a Studiopress theme on the Genesis framework and vice versa.

However, if you own any of the themes built on the Woo framework, you have access to all Woo themes so you can choose any of the existing theme page templates and simply upload them to your current themes folder so it will show up in your themes page template drop down menu.

Same goes for Studiopress. You may find one particular page template that you like included in a theme which you aren’t using and want to use it on another theme. As long as its a theme built on the Genesis framework, you can simply upload it to your existing Studiopress theme folder and you have a new custom page template available in your themes page templates.

This solution can be applied quickly & easily. All you need to do is choose a good WordPress framework which offers a large range of themes and you’ve got a huge range of page templates to choose from.

This method can be used when you need a custom home page, sales/landing/squeeze page, video page, image gallery etc, etc, etc.

Its an easy way to customize your WordPress site without having to learn PHP or CSS coding and you end up creating a unique website that’s not a standard theme everyone else has access to.

Keep this in mind when choosing from the huge range of WordPress theme creators & frameworks now available.

  1. Hi Brad
Very quick and easy to grasp. Thanks
How do you upload a custom designed landing page. I am “trying” to use the WP uploader from within where it says media files and I have the landing page saved on my computer.
But I cant seem to get it to work.

    Cheers
    Sainy

    1. Depends on the files Sainy. If they are php, you should upload them to your root directory on your server.

I advise you to find a tutorial on how to install the landing page if its NOT a plugin. It really depends on what type of files they are.
