This tutorial contains step by step instructions for beginners that have never installed software on their server before.
We’ll be installing the free version of JW Player which is one of the best video players for WordPress users.
If installing software is beyond you, i suggest you install the JW Video Player or Pro Player plugin instead.
Check out the demo video. Ready to gets started?
Download The Software
Go to http://www.longtailvideo.com/players/jw-flv-player/
Enter your email address and download the player in a zip folder to your local computer.
Create New Folder On Your Server
Next step is to create a new file folder (directory)
You can use FTP or cPanel. Here’s how to do this in cPanel.
Best to create the new folder so its located at yourdomain.com/jwplayer so name the folder jwplayer.
Upload Player ZIP folder
Upload the mediaplayer zip folder into your new jwplayer folder on your server
Extract Zip File
Extract the contents of the zip file into the new folder you named jwplayer
Sometimes when you extract zip files, it will create another folder inside your jwplayer folder. If this happens, simply move the contents to the correct folder.
Another way to avoid this problem is to:
- upload the zip file to your server,
- extract the folder contents and
- rename the folder to jwplayer.
Embed Player In a Web Page
Your video player should now be installed on your server but won’t work until you create and insert the embed code manually.
