How To Make a Favicon

If you take a look at the start of the address bar in your browser you will normally see a whats called a small icon.

The word Favicon is short for favorite icon which is an important part of online branding.

When someone saves one of your webpages your icon will appear in their bookmark menu or favorites menu.

Its a small icon normally made from reducing the size of your logo which displays in the browser when someone lands on any of your website pages.

Size

An icon of your logo can be of any size however the standard size is 16 x 16 pixels.

You can also make an icon which is 32 x 32 or 48 x 48 using a generator and use it in other locations on your site.

There’s different methods that can be used to make a favicon however the easiest way is to use an online  generator.

Once you have finished creating a favorite icon, it will look like all blurred and bloated before you add it to your website.

Adding the icon to Your Site

If you are using the Thesis theme for WordPress or another premium template, all you need to do is upload your favicon using the theme options in your admin panel.

Thesis comes with a built in uploader which makes it so easy your mum could even add a favicon to your site.

Another method is to install a plugin and upload your favicon using the plugin settings.

The WordPress plugin directory offers a range of plugins related to favicons depending on what you want to do with it.

Otherwise you can manually add your icon to your site by uploading it to your web servers root directory and adding some code to your theme’s file.
